Workshop - Addressing the Digital Divide: Best Practices for Online Learning Activities (Part I)

Presentation Abstract

This workshop helps educators explore how they can develop a positive learning environment with CSUDH’s non-traditional, first generation, and 21st century learners in an interactive way. The presenters will expand on this by discussing types of interactive teaching, means of communication and active learning with students in an online environment. The presenters will guide participants in understanding ways they can build positive psychology and student engagement. Topics in the workshop will include what is positive psychology, how this relates to student engagement, and the roles of student engagement. Participants will also learn how to create online classrooms that incorporate action research and experiential learning activities and how to build rapport with students in an online environment. Presenters will also discuss hybrid resources, which include discussion boards, visual aids, blackboard assignments, and live zoom review sessions. Participants will leave with a template for how they can implement active learning activities and a blueprint for forming an interactive classroom that they can use in their course development.
