Gender Equality: Tackling the Pipeline

Presentation Abstract

Women make up less than 25% of the STEM workforce in the US, and the number of women graduating with CS degrees has declined. Recent research reveals that women are employed in the majority of AI-threatened roles. Join this roundtable to discuss how the CSU tech community can contribute to achieving gender equality in technology by creating more interest in technology among girls before they get to the CSU and how to support their success while in the CSU.
We will share a summary of current issues and lead into a discussion around why addressing the under-representation of women in the tech industry matter. What are some of the strategies and tactics that are being executed at the system-wide level, campus level, and individual level? Participants will be engaged in an authentic conversation that brings out success stories, challenges, differing views, new ideas, and solutions. Participants will leave with a heightened understanding, commitment, and sense of urgency to help achieve gender equality as we go through the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
