Creating Accessible Social Media Posts

Presentation Abstract

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are widely used by corporations to promote their products. Academic institutions are following suit by promoting campus events, services, resources, and much more via social media. However, are we putting in the best effort to reach and engage all our audience, especially those in need of assistive technology? By making sure that our social media posts are engaging students, faculty, and staff of various abilities, our academic institutions will create meaningful and engaging communication for more people than ever before. In this workshop, attendees will learn hands-on how to create social media posts for low-vision, vision-impaired, and hearing-impaired individuals. By following these few simple web accessibility guidelines and best practices, our social media posts will be accessible and meaningful to the entire campus community. Come join us and let's make our social media posts accessible for all!
