Dell Boomi Overview and Live Demo

Presentation Abstract

In this session, Jake Hornsby (and friends--certainly Michael Snipes from Dell and team if they sponsor), CIO of Cal State East Bay, will provide an overview of Dell Boomi, along with a live demonstration building an integration between two or more modern platforms. The presentation will go over the purpose of the product, how it can change how we work and how we structure our teams, how we can collaborate and share integration ‘recipes’ amongst campuses to reduce duplication of efforts, and other related topics. Further, the presentation will wrap up with a live demo of the tool tying the data between systems in real-time. If possible, this will include an integration to the PeopleSoft API layer being put together by George Monsoor’s team.

The value of this presentation has many facets. First, what I have found in practice introducing Dell Boomi to a campus is that the role of modern integrations is often lacking in an organization that has traditionally used legacy means to integrate applications (e.g. python jobs, etc.). Secondly, it highlights the opportunity for those not necessarily in traditional ‘infrastructure’ roles to change their career path (given that training/certifications are free and integrations using tools such as this can be made by many from differing backgrounds). Additionally, it demonstrates how simple integrations can be made, especially if we share ‘recipes’ between us. Finally, it could be a call to action to get individuals to join an ‘integrations’ group that falls under ITAC, much like NTA and CAST whose charge does not necessarily cover integrations.
