Using Google Sheets to Build a Transformative Experience for Students

Presentation Abstract

Denise Castro shares how she has customized Google Sheets into a Workbook of hands on interactive weekly activities for students. Each student receives their own individual Workbook which is used to track, evaluate, assess and reflect on health habits leading to the establishment of personal goals. YouTube videos, web-links and instruction are easily embedded to populate each lesson/activity in the Google Sheet with formulas to automate the tedium of totaling and transferring figures. Using the automation features in Sheets students see interactive graphs and numeric values add up instantly as they fill in their responses. In contrast to downloading countless WORD or EXCEL files, the Google Sheet pops open quickly, saving time while also providing more oversight. Multiple advantages will be discussed such as time-saving features, revision history, archiving and data collection.
