The Unified Library Management System (ULMS): Unifying the 23 CSU libraries into one shared catalog
Presentation Abstract
The Unified Library Management System (ULMS): Unifying the 23 CSU libraries into one shared catalog
The ULMS was an undertaking by the CSU libraries which started in 2015 and went live in 2017. Lead by a central Chancellor’s Office team this project combined all 23 online catalogs from stand-alone desktop installations to a one central cloud-based system. This poster will highlight the major milestones of the project, outline the taskforces which were formed to make migration decisions, discuss how Chico undertook the project, and provide the status of working with the shared system on a daily basis. The ULMS project extracted and mapped millions of records into the new system. Through the utilization of Zoom and in person meetings, the library faculty and staff successfully implemented a unified system library system. The libraries are now able to share electronic collections, utilize shared cataloging data, and continue to make on going group decisions.
This poster will inform the audience of the ULMS project through:
• Visual representations of the timeline
• Major concerns and problems that had to be addressed
• Mapping of metadata examples
• Images of the new system
• Examples of public facing records and features for students
• System statistics and usage
I am looking forward to sharing the ULMS project with a wider CSU audience. Through this project the libraries were able to come together and leverage technology to achieve a shared system that is benefiting students. Thank you for your consideration of this poster.
