The Rise of the Project Management Liaison

Presentation Abstract

In an effort to introduce a more successful project management practice at CSUSB, we introduced a program to identify and appointment Project Management Liaisons from within departments of ITS to help promote more standardized and healthy projects. With a total of five Project Management Liaisons, we have more timely project status updates and reporting, a community focused on project management without dedicated project managers, and a team working on identifying, developing, and promoting project management practices across each department. Included in this program is a built-in identification, assessment, and evaluation component as we worked to identify the right combination of skill and passion in our liaisons as well as dealt with turn over in staff. This group has also been tasked with breaking down departmental silos as we focus our project collaboration and reporting on CSUSB and ITS Strategic Goals rather than individual departmental efforts. This program continues to make improvements to CSUSB project management practices with an aim toward developing a comprehensive project management methodology for our ITS division.
